-Basho
This is probably the most famous of all haikus. It was written in the seventeenth century by Matsuo Basho, the MASTER of Haiku.
There are those who believe that great haikus began and ended with Basho. But I believe that there is art in all of us and we just need to be ready to seize the “light” as our kaleidoscope turns. . . . even if just for a moment of awe! Like Monet’s waterlilies, our impressions and expressions are personal and unique, and although Basho was brilliant and deeply thoughtful, I believe he would not wish to have this insightful poetic expression stop with him. He is not the beginning and end of haiku, but merely the inspiration and invitation to capture our own world of haiku moments . . . be them ever so humble by comparison!
Arrigato, Bashosan!
