Suzanne L. Burns
The Studio at Burns Gardens
Port Lulow, WA

Thank you for visiting my studio . . . I hope you enjoy scrolling through the many images that make up my “gallery”.

For many years my focus as an artist has been to capture vignettes of nature that bring a smile,
or perhaps a moment of awe, and possibly allow a peek into a deeper part of our world or ourselves!

I started capturing these “vignettes” in a two dimension series of whimsical birds I call the “Calendar Girls”.

Bouncing between realism and abstraction and everything in between, I bounced one day into a stone carving class and fell in love with this art form. Although I try with every stone to move forward and explore new territory, each sculpture inevitably becomes a part of these winged creatures that are so mysterious and beautiful.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Suzanne L. Burns works in pencil, paint, clay and stone. She received her art degree from the University of Washington. A member of the Historic Verksted Gallery in Poulsbo, WA for over ten years, she now works almost exclusively in stone, and periodically sells and shows her work.

She is a member of the Northwest Stone Sculptors Association in Washington State and a member of the West Coast Sculpture Association in British Columbia. Her stone carvings are often done with regional stone and many of her birds from the watercolor and colored pencil series have been interpreted into stone work.

NEW BOOK AVALABLE!!

HAVANESE HAIKUS is my new book.

Inspired by the fact that I live in a dog kennel filled with cute little Havanese puppies, the visual haikus that I like to call my paintings and sculptures took a short vacation while I attempted to capture moments of AHH! in photos and Japanese short poems known as Haikus. Our daughter in law Emi Burns has moved to Seattle with our son. Emi is a formally trained Japanese artist who has exhibited extensively. You can see her work by clicking the button below:
